As the dust settles
Thanks to everyone who used our Election Toolkit to get Fairtrade and trade justice on the agenda in the run-up to the Election. We also contacted all prospective candidates asking them to make a simple pledge ‘to support the continued growth of Fairtrade in the UK’ if they were elected. We received an extraordinary 900 responses from across the political spectrum. Whoever makes up the next government, we're looking forward to support across the parties as the Fairtrade movement seeks to put Fairtrade principles at the heart of all aspects of trade, business and consumption.
But let's not forget Fairtrade is a grassroots movement which continues to grow and whose success relies not on political patronage, but on people coming together to create change. No election is going to change that!
What you can do
Remind new MPs about Fairtrade
Soon after the election, if you have time, please write to your newly elected MP. It’s a good opportunity to register Fairtrade on their radar, to remind them of any promises they made as a candidate and to capitalise on the good work you have done getting the Fairtrade / trade justice messages across in the run up to the election. Feed back on what you found out
We need your help to keep track of the election activity that happened on Fairtrade and trade justice in different constituencies, to help us follow up on any commitments made in the future. Whether you simply spoke to a canvasser or organised a major hustings event – we want to know about it! Please let us know what you heard and saw on the election trail by filling in our feedback form.
