Along the Bath to Bristol Railway Path 10am-4pm (last start time is 2pm)

Families are invited to take part in a FREE cycling treasure
hunt to be in with a chance of winning a new bicycle.

There will be a free drink and snack for everyone who takes part
and refreshments will be available to buy along the way.

Turn up on the day and collect your clues card and further
details at any of the stalls at the locations along the route.
Using the map provided, the challenge is to find the sports related
clues along the route and mark them on the score card.

There is a choice of two routes on the Bristol to Bath Railway
Path between Staple Hill and Bath. Each route is approximately 4-5
miles long but if you'd like a better chance of winning or fancy a
longer ride you can do both routes. It's not a race but remember
the last start time is 2pm to make sure you are finished by
4pm.

At the end of the day, two completed cards will be pulled out of
the hat for each route. One lucky adult and one lucky child from
each challenge will win a new bicycle. A further 10 child runners
up will each win a cycle accessories voucher to be spent at a local
shop.

Active for Life / Get Active will donate £50 to the school and
brownie group with the most entrants.

The third meeting of BetterBath on 18 June will discuss the Economy of Bath – What changes do we need?
 
This is your opportunity to discuss:

§      Where is Bath heading if we do nothing?  

§      What kind of new jobs do we want?  

§      How can the universities help?  

§      Can we avoid the risks of unplanned development?

 
The opening speakers will be Colin Skellett, Executive Chairman of Wessex Water and Chairman of the B&NES Initiative (the strategic body which provides a single business voice in discussions with B&NES Council), will describe the current state of the economy in Bath, and Simon Bond, Director of Innovation Centres at the University of Bath, will talk about what needs to change if the City is to move towards a more balanced and dynamic economy. The meeting will be chaired by Sam Holliday, Editor of the Bath Chronicle. Towards the end of the meeting he will summarise the key points emerging from the debate, and these will be posted on this website   We will invite the appropriate bodies (the Council, the B&NES Initiative, the universities etc) to comment on these key points after the meeting, and will publish their responses online.
 
Further information about the Forum is available on the forum website (http://www.betterbath.org.uk).  If you would like to speak at this meeting, please notify us (preferably via the website) with an indication of your interest, so that we can keep a note of the numbers interested and marshal your issues into a logical order. We will invite one of you to lead off on each issue.
 
The meeting will be in St Michael’s Church, Broad Street, Bath, BA1 5LJ Doors will open at 18.00 when tea and coffee will be available and raffle tickets will be on sale.  The meeting will start promptly at 18.30. At the end of the meeting there will be an opportunity to purchase a glass of wine and continue the discussion informally.  All takings from the sale of refreshments and the raffle will go to a local charity.

Families are invited to take part in a FREE cycling treasure

Come and enjoy (up to) 8 miles of countryside cycling, walking
or running in a traffic free environment. Starting from Tea &
Trade Tea Rooms, Church Street, Radstock (free parking nearby).
Great fun for everyone, families, individuals and groups, on bike,
foot or wheelchair.

There will be a free drink, cereal bar and piece of fruit for
everyone who takes part and refreshments will be available to buy
along the way.

Prizes include a Halford Appollo Suspension Bike & £100
voucher for Bike-it. Walker / runner first prize is £50 voucher to
spend at Norton Sports. Plus lots of runner up prizes.

Get Active will donate £50 to the school and Brownies / Scout
pack with the most child entries.

Halfords Bike Hut will be there to give your bike a quick check

Hi All -

I know this is short notice, but the Oxfam Bookshop have agreed to let us have a stall to collect signatures for the G8 petition in the bookshop on Saturday morning! This is a great opportunity to link with the shop and see if this sort of campaign works - it could form the basis of more campaigning throughout the year (and means we can campaign inside rather than outside which is good!).

Thee idea is that we will provide a table & postcards for people to sign to send a Wish to the G8 in Japan. The wishes will then be hung on a Japanese bamboo tree that will go in the window of the shop for the day.

I have the postcards, a tablecloth, the bamboo tree and string. I may be able to get a table, but it's a bit heavy, so if anyone has a light plastic table they can bring that'd be great!

We'll set up around 10 and then man the stall between 10 - 2 (depending on volunteer numbers). If you can help even for half an hour during this time that woudl be great. We only need 1 or 2 people onthe stall at any one time due to the size of the shop, but the more who can do it, the longer we can do it for and the more signatures we'll get!

Once we collect the signatures, we'll be sending a picture of the tree and a message to Beppu, Bath's partner city in Japan about the G8....

Bike Week is the UK's annual promotion of cycling with the aim to
get more people on their bikes. The week also encourages people to
consider cycling to work as an alternative to commuting by car and
to reduce the number of unnecessary short car journeys.

Bath & North East Somerset Council's Road Safety and Sports
& Active Leisure teams run a number of cycling events to
encourage people out of their car and to take up a healthier and
greener mode of travel.

Bike Week takes place nationally every June when a variety of
events are held to encourage people to get out on their
bikes.

This year, Bike Week will take place between Saturday 14th and
Sunday 22nd June 2008.

Summer Special Event - Wed 2 July - Green Drinks Bike Ride

This is our annual event where Green Drinks goes mobile for one evening.
We'll be getting on our bikes and cycling along the railway path to The
Jolly Sailor at Saltford, to meet up with Green Drinkers from Bristol.
Its a gentle, flat, half-hour ride to a pub in a delightful location.
The pub does good food, and we can sit round the tables outside and
enjoy the view over the river Avon.

Meet at 6pm, with your bike, on the green in front of Norfolk Crescent.
(Near Sainsburys, where the road leads down to join up with the river

We will be selling apples from our harvest at Bath Farmers Market, Green Park Station, every Saturday in September and through the autumn, and will need volunteers to help us run our stall for a couple of hours between 8.30am and 1.30pm.
